Meetings and Incentive planners will appreciate that Portugal is compact and easy to “navigate”, with major airports in Lisbon, Oporto, Faro, the Algarve, Madeira and the Azores, plus a network of express trains connecting major cities.
These cities offer state-of-art venues for Meetings and Conventions.
Lisbon is renowned for its combination of beautiful weather and local color. One the oldest cities in Europe, it is a lively and cosmopolitan place. Major trading centre with the Portuguese voyages of discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries, devastated by the earthquake of 1755 and reconstructed as the most modern city in Europe in the second half of the 18th century, Lisbon hosted the last world exhibition of the 20th century, the Expo’98.
Oporto the most popular image of the city is that of its three famous bridges and the characteristic craft, known as 'Barcos Rabelos' which ply the Douro River, below, with their cargos of wine. Having played an important role along Portugal’s history, what actually made Oporto famous worldwide was Port Wine.
The Algarve is the southern most region of Portugal located only 180 miles to the south of Lisbon it offers soft golden sandy beaches, with natural rock formations throughout the coast, water as warm as the Mediterranean but with a touch of the bracing Atlantic.
Madeira is one of the Excellence Tourist Destinations in the world, a botanical melting pot that in a confined space has growing plants from all regions of the earth, definitely deserving that cognomen “Flower Island”, a fascinating open-air network of water canals known as “Levadas” (930 miles) covering the island bringing water from the mountains to the plantations below and offering unforgettable experiences of walking paths with breathtaking scenery. Thanks to the their mild climate and unique mountain ranges the Islands of Madeira and Porto Santo invite visitors to the practice of sports from golf to tennis, yachting and many other outdoor activities.
The Azores is an amazing archipelago with 9 volcanic islands in middle of the North Atlantic Ocean that mark the western most end of Europe. Azores has a temperate, maritime climate characterized by agreeable temperatures with small average annual change. A natural paradise, still a sleeping beauty of never-ending panoramic views, savagely beautiful untouched nature with wide open spaces, volcano crater with emerald and turquoise calm waters, exuberant flora with hydrangeas, agapanthuses and azaleas in abundance.
